The National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health (NIRRCH), Mumbai, invites applications for admission to the Ph.D. program for the academic session 2025. The institute is affiliated with the University of Mumbai and offers Ph.D. degrees in Life Sciences, Applied Biology, and Biochemistry. The admission process will be conducted through a walk-in interview.
As per the NIRRCH Ph.D. Admission 2025 Notification, candidates with a postgraduate degree in Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Zoology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, etc.), MBBS, BDS, MD, or M.Pharm from a recognized university are eligible to apply.
The selection of candidates will be based on their performance in a personal interview and the fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria.
The selected candidates will receive fellowship support as per the funding agency’s norms. Candidates without an external fellowship will be provided an institutional fellowship of ₹8,000 per month for a maximum of two years upon successful completion of coursework and Ph.D. proposal presentation.
Interested and eligible candidates must attend the walk-in interview on 17-03-2025 at the NIRRCH, Mumbai. Reporting time is 9:00 AM, and the interview will be conducted from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Educational Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Zoology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, etc.), MBBS, BDS, MD, or M.Pharm from a recognized university.
- Minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA (General, OBC, and EWS candidates).
- Minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (SC/ST/PWD candidates).
- Candidates awaiting final results for the academic year 2024-2025 may also apply, but they must provide proof of qualification before joining.
Entrance Exam Requirement
- Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the University of Mumbai.
- CSIR-UGC NET (JRF/LS/Ph.D. only) or GATE (Life Sciences/Biotechnology) valid until March 2026 or later.
- JRF examination conducted by national agencies such as ICMR/DBT.
- Valid DST-Inspire Fellowship.
- MH-SET (Maharashtra State Eligibility Test) for Assistant Professor in Life Sciences.
Age Limit
- General & EWS Candidates: Maximum 28 years as of 17-03-2025.
- SC/ST/PWD/Women Candidates: Maximum 33 years (5 years relaxation).
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: Maximum 31 years (3 years relaxation).
Selection Process
- The selection will be based on personal interviews and fulfillment of eligibility criteria.
- A list of available Ph.D. guides and research topics will be provided to selected candidates.
Fellowship
- Candidates with CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT JRF will receive fellowship support as per their funding agency.
- Candidates without a fellowship will receive ₹8,000 per month for up to 2 years, provided they successfully complete coursework and Ph.D. proposal presentation.
